THE CONTROL LOOP
Your results suggest that your Inaction Loop may be the Control Loop.

FROM COACH JERRY MEYER
1. IDENTITY
You start at Identity: “I am someone who has to have everything under control.”
4. EXPERIENCE
Then the Experience comes: a brief “at least nothing went wrong” mixed with growing frustration that nothing actually moves. That experience loops straight back to Identity and the whole thing repeats.
2. MEANING
That identity creates the Meaning (the If/Then): “If I take action without full control / without all the information / without it being perfect, then it will fail… chaos will happen… I’ll look incompetent… or I’ll lose control.”
3. CHOICE
At the Choice point you almost always pick Inaction (you delay, you over-plan, you wait for more certainty, you don’t start until every variable is locked down).
You’ve probably never had words for this before.
That’s why it felt confusing.
You’re not weak.
You’re not a pushover.
You’re looping to feel safe.
The Controller in you is actually a Gift.
The stuck loop happens when you’re trying to fill your own cup (your need for safety) by controlling every variable and every person.
That’s why there’s nothing left for your own action — or you never even start.
The gift version of control flows from overflow — after your own need for safety is met and you trust you can handle what comes.
When the loop is quiet, you’re the organized, prepared, reliable person everyone trusts to keep things running smoothly.
When the loop is running, you wait, overthink, and control until the window closes or you’re exhausted — and your own important actions stay frozen.

empty-cup version this week:
NAME IT
Name the Identity and the If/Then out loud.
Write them on the diagram:
“I am someone who ______.”
Then “If I take this action, then ______.”
Why? The loop loses power the moment you can see it instead of just living it.
PAUSE
Catch yourself at the Choice point.
The next time you feel you need more information, a better plan, or everything to be certain, pause for ten seconds and ask:
“Do I have enough to take one small step… or am I waiting for total control?”
Why? That’s the exact moment the loop usually chooses Inaction. A ten-second pause is enough to create a different choice.
NEW EXPERIENCE
Give yourself one tiny Experience that contradicts the old identity.
Do one small thing without full control or a perfect plan — even if it feels incomplete or uncomfortable — and notice what actually happens.
Why? Every new Experience that doesn’t match the old story starts rewriting the Identity. That’s how the loop begins to break.
The loop ends when you realize you can still feel safe
and take action anyway.
